JENNY LIERUD
baroque cellist and cellist in Stockholm, Sweden.
I’m specialised in early music, and especially the baroque era, with all it’s richness and variations, has a special place in my heart. The different styles of baroque music are enjoyable in different ways, but I especially enjoy the rethorics and the rythmical swing of the music. Playing baroque always gives me the space and the inspiration to express myself musically in new ways.
I have a wide range of repertoire, from folk music to contemporary music. My roots are in the Swedish folk music tradition and I have played in many constellations with different kinds of “world music” settings. I’m particularly interested in how different genres and music are related and how it has been interwoven historically.
I like playing as a soloist, but I love playing basso continuo lines. Above all comes playing chamber music. The interaction with other musicians is one of my most important inspirations, and there are few things that can beat the feeling of joy I experience with fellow musicians.
I freelance throughout Europe, mostly in Sweden, The Netherlands and Belgium. This has given me the opportunity to, in addition to concerts with my own ensembles, play in many different contexts and groups.
ITM Alexander Technique
I’m a certified teacher of the Interactive Teaching Method of the Alexander Technique. I got my certification in June 2025, after 4 years of studies and travels to Bristol, U.K.
ITM, the Interactive Teaching Method, is one of many approaches of the Alexander technique. It’s a principle based method with focus on thinking in activity and reasoning. It’s a powerful tool for change and to finding more freedom and ease in daily life, both in mind and body.
Read more about me and the Alexander technique in Swedish under “Alexanderteknik” in the menu. Or read more about the ITM in English here: https://www.itmalexandertechnique.org/
Please get in touch if you want to know more or to book a lesson! I teach in English as well as Swedish, depending on the participants.
I teach Alexander technique in Stockholm, at Baldersgatan close to T-Tekniska Högskolan, on Thursdays. I’m also open to other solutions and I’m happy to travel, if applicable.

ENSEMBLES
12 STRING CONSORT is an ensemble that focuses on repertoir from the 16th and 17th centuries. They are playing many beautiful and fun, and mostly unknown, pieces. The ensemble is exploring the ensemble format of violin band or violin consort, and also the different way of improvisation in music that was common at the time.
12 String Consort is a trio with Johannes Jacobsson and Jeanette Eriksson playing violin, alto violin and tenor violin, and Jenny on the cello/ bass violin. Their current programme is named: Madrigaler, Menuetter och Musetter.
BASTARD BAROCK is a baroque collective consisting of some of the best young baroque musicians in Sweden. The ensemble is based in Malmö/Sweden and gathers for creative and cross artistic projects on the basis of the early music. In 2018 they released the CD Not in my Backyard, based on their post-colonial baroque cabaret with the same name.
The Swedish-Belgian quintet LAIA ARKESTRA with the unique line-up saxophone, violin, viola, baroque cello and oud. Neither jazz combo nor string quartet but somewhere in between, with an unmistakable oriental element from the oud. Their music combines classic composition techniques with free improvisation, western harmony with middle-eastern maqam and haunting melodies with abstract soundscapes. The ensemble released their debute album LAIA in November 2015.
BOXWOOD & BOWS, a trio of historical clarinet, baroque violin/baroque viola and baroque cello. B&B is currently playing music composed in the galant style and the early romantic style, with works by for example G.F. Fuchs and J.B. Vanhal. The trio consists of the Canadian clarinettist Adrianna van Leeuwen, the Chinese violin and viola player Xiangji Zeng, and Jenny on the cello.
NO TREBLE, a baroque cello-baroque bass duo, where Jenny together with the bass player Sarah Nygren explore the repertoire written for this slightly unusual combination of instruments. At present they’re playing a programme based on the music surrounding the double-bass virtuoso Domenico Dragonetti.
